A poem based on Mark 8:34-38

The cross I fear to lift is light compared to chains
That bind me to possessions, pride, and false esteem.
Lord, help me see that death to self is really not extreme
When weighed against your sacrifice that breaks all other claims.

I hide behind the masks of comfort, seeking praise
From lips that cannot save, from hearts as lost as mine.
Unchain my muted voice to speak your truth divine,
Unashamed to stand for you through even hostile days.

What wealth could match the worth of one surrendered soul?
A heart that beats in rhythm with its Maker's plan.
So take my all—I'll follow where your footprints span,
For losing life in you makes broken spirits whole.
