Psalm 98: Sing to the Lord a New Song (SLR Devo)
Scripture
Psalm 98 (CEB)
Sing to the Lord a new song
because he has done wonderful things!
His own strong hand and his own holy arm
have won the victory!
2 The Lord has made his salvation widely known;
he has revealed his righteousness
in the eyes of all the nations.
3 God has remembered his loyal love
and faithfulness to the house of Israel;
every corner of the earth has seen our God’s salvation.
4 Shout triumphantly to the Lord, all the earth!
Be happy!
Rejoice out loud!
Sing your praises!
5 Sing your praises to the Lord with the lyre—
with the lyre and the sound of music.
6 With trumpets and a horn blast,
shout triumphantly before the Lord, the king!
7 Let the sea and everything in it roar;
the world and all its inhabitants too.
8 Let all the rivers clap their hands;
let the mountains rejoice out loud altogether 9 before the Lord
because he is coming to establish justice on the earth!
He will establish justice in the world rightly;
he will establish justice among all people fairly.
1 Revised Common Lectionary, Sixth Sunday of Easter, Year B
Lyric
"How Great Is Our God" by Chris Tomlin (2004)
The splendor of a King, clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice
All the earth rejoice
He wraps himself in Light, and darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice
Trembles at His voice
How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God
Reflection
Sing to the Lord!
Why?
Because of all that God has done, is doing, and will do.
Sing to the Lord a new song!
Wait...what? I'm no songwriter.
Perhaps not, but if your Savior is walking with you and if the spirit is working in you, then there's a song to be sung.
This might be a strange request, but this morning, I invite you to sing to the Lord YOUR song of thanks. Don't just think it and don't just say it – SING IT OUT LOUD!
And when you do, the world around you will join in with praise!
Heavenly Father, our savior Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit our guide--
Today, as I bow my head, I simply say thank you for all you have done, are doing, and will do. Put a new song in my heart. Give me a new vision for my life. Give me new strength to follow you faithfully in my world.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
All of this I pray, lifting up my soul to you.
Amen.
Thank you for walking with us. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior, the One who brings new life, we pray. Amen.
