Caterpillars and Butterflies

In those moments when I feel trapped in old patterns or doubt my transformation, the butterfly reminds me: what God begins, He completes. The same power that resurrects dead things into living wonders is at work within me, daily unfolding new wings of possibility.

A short thought on transformation in Christ

As I contemplate the caterpillar's journey to becoming a butterfly, I stand before nature's most profound parable of rebirth. I'm captivated by this miracle: a ground-bound creature that inches along leaves and branches enters its chrysalis—a moment of complete surrender—and emerges as something gloriously unrecognizable. Wings replace crawling legs; flight replaces limitation; beauty replaces utility.

What happens within that chrysalis speaks directly to my own spiritual journey. Inside, the caterpillar doesn't simply grow wings and paint itself in vibrant colors. It undergoes complete dissolution. Its body breaks down into a cellular soup—its former self liquefied—before reorganizing into the butterfly's form. This isn't mere change; it's recreation from the inside out.

I find myself in Paul's words from 2 Corinthians 5:17: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" Like the butterfly, I don't simply become an improved version of my former self—I become an entirely new creation with new capabilities, purpose, and freedom.

A butterfly cannot revert to caterpillar form. The transformation is irreversible, complete, decisive. Similarly, my new identity in Christ isn't temporary or conditional. I may still struggle with the memory of my "caterpillar days," but my spiritual DNA has been fundamentally altered by grace.

Perhaps the most beautiful parallel I see lies in the purpose behind both transformations. The caterpillar's existence focuses primarily on consumption—eating leaves, growing larger. But the butterfly? It exists to soar and to create life through pollination. My new life in Christ similarly calls me away from self-focused consumption toward kingdom-building flight—bringing life and light wherever I go.

In those moments when I feel trapped in old patterns or doubt my transformation, the butterfly reminds me: what God begins, He completes. The same power that resurrects dead things into living wonders is at work within me, daily unfolding new wings of possibility.

The Heart of True Fasting
May this season be more than a time of temporary abstinence. May it be a catalyst for lasting transformation—transformation that manifests in justice, generosity, and self-giving love. For this, according to Isaiah, is the fast that God has chosen.
It’s Time For A Change
I’ve decided to trust the Lord with this ministry and take a step of faith. While financial support remains important for the continuation of Do Everything In Love, I believe that making my content freely accessible aligns more closely with my mission.
