Silent Night

Silent Night

Silent night, holy night!
All is calm, all is bright,
Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Words:  Joseph Mohr 1818
Music:  Franz Gruber, 1818

Silent night.  I wonder how silent the night really was?  Nobody really knows.    This isn’t Scripture so we cannot extend to it any protection of inerrancy or divine inspiration.  However, we might reflect on silence.  Silence may not only be possible when there are no other sounds.  There can be peace in the midst of turmoil, solitude in the midst of the crowd and silence when the world is screaming all around us.

Silent night.  Holy night.  All is calm.  All is right…and bright.
